TV sets, DVD, game consoles and other brown goods

About 200 million televisions which consume 14.6 billion kilowatt hours a year are owned by European households. The stand-by mode alone consumes 2000 mw per annum. Using energy efficient technologies reduces consumption greatly by a more efficient activation of the TV from stand-by mode.

Using energy efficient-technologies and observing directives for energy savings, as recommended for example by the IEA, the World Bank, or the Asia Alternative Energy Programm could save up to 90 percent (1800 mw) per year, which compares to the output of two average-sized fossil power plants.
The picture is no different in Asia: For Malaysia, with an estimated number of 10.8 million TV sets this would mean approximately 790 million kWh/year in energy savings, for Singapore, with an estimated number of 1.3 million TV sets, about 95 million kWh/year.

Infineon's CoolSET familiy contributes enormously to reducing the energy consumption of TV sets by efficiently activating and reactivating the stand-by mode.
Infineon is lobbying for the implementation of standards for energy consumption into the European legislation that already exist but are not yet legally binding.
